12.8 Specifying the encryption passphrase by the user
The machine and the printer driver communicate with each other by encrypting a user password, account
password or secure document password using a common encryption key.
Although an encryption passphrase for generating the common encryption key is preset as a default setting,
it can also be generated with a user-defined encryption passphrase.
To specify a user-defined encryption passphrase, specify the same encryption passphrase both for the ma-
chine and the printer driver.

- If different values are used for the encryption passphrase for the machine and the printer driver, the ma-
chine cannot decrypt the encrypted user password, account password or secure document password,
and printing cannot be performed.
- The common encryption key is automatically generated by the [Encryption Passphrase]. The common
encryption key cannot be specified directly.
12.8.1 Settings for the machine
Go to Administrator Settings to configure the settings for the machine.
1 In the [Administrator Settings] screen, press [Security Settings].
2 In the [Security Settings] screen, press [Driver Password Encryption Setting].
3 Press [User-Defined].
% If you do not specify a user-defined [Encryption Passphrase], press [Use Factory Default].
4 Press [Encryption Passphrase].
